Most Controlled IPL Tons
This is a list of top 10 IPL centuries in terms of Control% :-
10. Virat Kohli 113 vs KXIP
Garnering a control of 86% while striking at a whopping SR of 226, Kohli scored this ton against the bowling attack of Mohit, Sandeep, Abbott, Cariappa & Axar. His most productive shot was Cover Drive through which he accumulated 28 runs in his fluent innings.
9. Quinton de Kock 108 vs RCB
Chasing a mammoth 191 at the batting paradise of Chinnaswamy, Quinton managed an 87% control in this match-winning knock. He struck at 212 and his most productive shot was Cut Shot, which got him 30 runs off this shot alone.
8. Hussey 116 vs KXIP
Batting first on a haven for batters required CSK to put on a total in excess of 200 and Hussey's impeccable 87% control with an SR of 215 ensured they reached 240 and eventually winning the game by 33 runs. His most productive shot was Off-drive which fetched him 33 runs in total.
7. Gayle 128 vs DD
Kotla witnessed Gaylestorm in 2012 when the RCB & DD met towards the end of the season. Control isn't a measure Gayle is best at, maybe power and hence this is only ton which makes to this list of top 10. High degree control of 87% against I Pathan, Umesh & Negi with an SR of 206 was enough to take the game away from the hosts. His top shot was Leg-Glance, scoring 39 runs off it.
6. Gilchrist 109 vs MI
Chasing a meager 154 at Wankhede, this was one of the cakewalks for Deccan Chargers back in 2008. Gilly and Laxman chased down the target without losing any wicket, where Laxman only played a supporting role, much like our mythology. His SR of 231 which included 19 boundaries in 47 balls was just too much to handle for the likes of RP Singh, Afridi & Ojha. One of the fastest tons and still had control of 88%. His most productive shot was Pull Shot which accumulated him 36 runs.
5. Manish 114 vs DC
The first century by an Indian in the IPL had a surprisingly high control of 89% and by a youngster no less. A ton where the next best score from the team was just 23, it's safe to say it was just a one-man show which saw RCB posting a 170 at Centurion. His top shot was On-Drive which got him 36 runs through the innings.
4. Kohli 100 vs GL
A ton in the losing cause which aced on the measures of control. Some might question the SR of 158 but it was more of Jadeja and Tambe's brilliance at Rajkot which ensured RCB were stopped at 180 when 200 looked certain during middle overs. He played more conventional shots and scored 25 runs off just cover drives, his top shot of the innings.
3. ABD 105 vs CSK
A match-defining ton in the first innings for Delhi set up a 9 run victory over the Chennai Super Kings. Striking at 194, ABD managed control of 90% and remained not out to mark one of the most perfect IPL outings ever. He also scored 50+ runs off his most productive shot of the innings-Leg Glance.
2. ABD 133 vs MI
Malinga, Bumrah, McClenaghan, Harbhajan & Hardik. Easily one of the best attacks ever in the history of IPL and Mr. 360 degrees dispatched them all over the park. If the SR of 225 wasn't enough to blow your mind then let the control of 93% sink in. He, again, remained unbeaten and his top shot was classic Cover drive, giving him 27 runs with 6 fours.
1. Suresh Raina 100 vs KXIP
Mr. IPL tops the list with 94% control in this ballistic innings at home vs Punjab. Although the opponent attack wasn't as elite as one would hope, it still doesn't take away the fact that Raina was in a superlative degree of control throughout. SR of 188 was enough to set up a match-winning target and his top shot was Leg Glance which accumulated him 33 runs.
