MI v RR: IPL MATCH 9 PREVIEW & PREDICTION
The Mumbai Indians are set to take on the Rajasthan Royals in the 9th match of the 2022 IPL at the Dr Dy Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Death, taxes, and MI losing their opening game are the three constants in life. Batting 1st, Rohit and Ishan put up a decent opening stand but the young and inexperienced middle order of MI could not capitalize on the momentum and kept losing wkts on regular intervals and managed a modest total of 177 on a matchbox size ground. MI will be boosted by the addition of Surya Kumar Yadav in the next game. In hindsight, Rohit erred by not bowling the full quota of Tymal Mills. Daniel Sams went for 24 in the 18th over and Bumrah having a rare off day just added to the misery.
Rajasthan Royals started their campaign with a bang by posting a total of 210 against SRH and winning the encounter 61 runs. Sanju Samson was the star of the evening with 55 from just 27 deliveries. He was well supported from both sides as Paddikal posted 41 off 29 and Shimron Hetymer with 32 in just 13 deliveries. Since 2020, Hetmyrer has scored 235 runs at the death at a SR of 200. Prasidh Krishna started from where he left in the series against WI, he picked 2 crucial wkts in the Powerplay. With Yuzvendra Chahal weaving his magic in the middle order in tandem with Ravi Ashwin it was always going to be an uphill task for the SRH in the 2nd innings.
Yuzvendra Chahal will pose a big challenge for the Mumbai Indians as he has a great record against almost every MI batter. MI are Jos Butler's favourite opponents. He has scored 300 runs against them at a SR of 166 and an average of 75

Form Update
(IPL 2021 and 2022)
Key Players
Mumbai Indians
Jasprit Bumrah: With 130 wkts at an eco of 7.4 he is one of the best fast bowlers in the tournament. His nos at the death are 2nd to none and very few batters have manged to play him in that phase of the game.
Tilak Verma: The southpaw from Hyderabad was a member of India’s U19 World Cup in 2020. He was picked by MI at 1.7 crores after facing a little competition from SRH, CSK and RR. His last outings in VHT and SMAT are one of the major reasons why so many franchises raised the paddle for him. He scored 215 runs in SMAT at a strike rate of 147.
Tim David: The 25 year old all rounder has represented Singapore 14 times at t20 level. 282 runs at a strike rate of 146 in CPL 2021, 218 runs at SR 163 in 2021/22 BBL and 251 runs at SR 199 in PSL 2022 were the last 3 T20 assignments for David where he came out with flying colors. The strike rates are too good for a batter playing as a finisher. MI will look to slot him and Pollard at 5-6 batting position.
Rajasthan Royals
Sanju Samson: Often criticized for his inconsistency, he has exhibited great improvement in the last 2 seasons of the IPL. He used to start the season strong and then post a string of low scores. He is the only middle order batter apart from AB de Villiers to score 3 centuries as a non-opener. Since 2018, Samson has scored 1697 runs at a strike rate of 145. Only Rishabh Pant had a better SR than him among the Indian batters.
Jos Butler: Since 2018, Butler strikes at 148.3 in the Powerplay with 663 runs. Regarded as one of the most dangerous white ball batters in the world, he had a brilliant t20 wc where he scored a scintillating 100 against SL on a slow Sharjah Pitch.
Yuzvendra Chahal: He has been RCB's backbone in the bowling department for years. He parted ways with franchise after being their highest wicket taker with 139 scalps at an economy of 7.6. He is the highest wicket taker (113) in the middle overs phase. Next best is Rashid Khan with 72 wickets.
Trent Boult: Boult took 16 wkts in the Powerplay in 2020 and was one of the major reasons in MI's title wim. Krishna and Boult will form a good pair with the new ball
