IND v SL: ASIA CUP MATCH PREVIEW

Pakistan defeated India by five wickets on Sunday in another high-intensity last over thriller. This was India's only 7th loss out of 27 games they have played since last t20 wc. Put into bat 1st, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing against Naseem Shah and co in the Powerplay. India was well ahead in the game with 100 runs on the board in the 11th over. But the same issue of tackling spinners in middle overs came back to haunt them and a 2nd ball duck for Hardik was the final nail in the coffin.India scored only 73 runs in 9 overs. Rishabh Pant was the most dissappointing out of all batters as he couldn't dominate the leg spinner and the left arm spinner and gifted his wkt by playing a reverse sweep.

Today's story could be somewhat similar. The openers will come out with intent against Fernando and Madushanka and unsettle them. India would avoid giving a platform to Hasaranga and Theekshana as spin is their achilees heel in the middle overs. Sri Lanka will be riding high on momentum after chasing back to back high scores against Bangladesh and Afganistan. Kusal Mendis at the top followed by Gunathlika , Rajapaksa in middle and Shanaka, Karunaratne as finishsers form a decent batting line up. Nissanka was one of the highest scorer in Australia in the 5 match series held in Feb.

India have plenty of issues as far as the bowling is considered. Time and again it has proved that trusting Hardik as your 3rd pacer has resulted in only one outcome. He is best suited in the middle overs when the team has 3 frontline pacers. India could bring in Ashwin in place of Chahal to counter Asalanka, Rajapaksa and Gunthilaka. Ravi Bishnoi has grabbed his opportunities in blue. In the last 5 t20is he has picked 11 wkts and was India's best bowler in the last game. Toss will again be a crucial factor. Only thrice in the last 27 games a team has won batting 1st at Dubai

Key players & Fantasy picks

Captain / Vice Captain

Hardik Pandya:

Since his return from the injury, he has put a brilliant case for being one of the finest all rounders in the t20 format. With captaincy and leading his IPL team to a title victory he has emerged as a more mature player. 487 runs in 2022 IPL and Man of the match performance in the final with the ball. 383 runs at a SR of 144 in last 17 t20is and 13 wkts including a 4 fer against Eng makes him one of the most utility players in the format.

Virat Kohli:

35(34), 59*(44), 60(44) while these nos may not appear great considering the scoring rate but there were shades of the Old Virat. Compared to what he was like in England two months ago, he appears to be in better shape. As compared to Hong Kong, he was more prepared to take on spinners the last game

Wanindu Hasaranga:

With 26 wickets at an echo of 7.7, he had one of the best seasons for a leg spinner in the IPL. He took 20 wkts in the middle overs. An outstanding fielder who can score crucial runs with the bat down the order like he did in the last game against Afghanistan.

Budget picks ( Fantasy rating: 8/8.5 points )

Mahesh Theekshana:

Coming off of two straight economical performances in high scoring games (1/25 and 1/29). His performance this year in the IPL was a revelation after a rough start against SA in his debut. One of the most economical bowlers in the PP, he took six wickets.
